2073

Folio of Ikebana Prints - ca. 1950 A rare folio of ikebana flower arrangements entitled Modern Japanese Art of Flower Arrangements, published by Hanano-Shiori-Sha from Kohata, the suburbs of Kyoto, in 1950. This is Volume V of a series in English from the same publisher. The arrangements were painted by Etsujin Kawahara and were printed by Seizaburo Nishikawa. The book contains 23 full-color prints (not woodblock) on heavy paper measuring 10 X 14 inches with a description of the arrangement by noted experts of the day accompanying each print. There are also 13 introductory pages of text on very thin paper. The book was initially bound on the left hand border but this has come apart so that all the pages are loose. Both front and back boards are present as are the purple ribbon ties. A few of the prints have very minimal, light spots of foxing. The text pages have browned and there is some foxing and browning of the reverse of the prints. Each print has binding holes on the left margin. All in all, the prints are in very good condition, having been protected in the folio for the last 50 years. We are offering this as an intact folio at much less than the price of each of the prints. If there is no interest, we will sell the prints individually. Please e-mail us if you would like to see all of the prints. We will send you the JPEGs.
