A very unusual Japanese pottery vase with a fine, cream-white earthenware body, measuring 5 3/4 X 3 ins., dating to the Meiji or Taisho periods. This vase is covered with a fine crackle, cream glaze and is accentuated by slips of red, blue and tan that run down from the rim. The artist has used these glazes as clouds to hide an elegant coiled dragon done in raised gold lacquer. The base has underglaze cracks produced during one of the several firings needed to make this unique piece. They are not through and through and do not affect the structural integrity. A unique Japanese pottery and lacquer vase in original and fine condition. |
