A fine Japanese Imari footed bowl, measuring 4 1/2 X 2 3/4 ins., dating to the late Edo to early Meiji Eras. The bowl is decorated in kinrande style with alternating floral medallions. The high foot shows an X and O pattern in underglaze blue. The base is unmarked, consistent with earlier Imari pieces. The gold on the rim is worn and a small (1/4 in.) rim chip has been filled with a gold lacquer technique. A fine bowl that could have been used either as a teabowl or a food dish during the tea ceremony. |
