A great set of seven (7) Japanese Oribe covered bowls dating to the late 19th - early 20th century. Each bowl measures 4 1/4 in. across and 2 in. high (2 1/2 ins. with the covers on). Each piece has a pottery body, a cream glaze, underglaze brown geometric designs, and a splash of lustrous green/blue glaze -- all characteristics of Oribe wear. Five are in excellent, original condition. Two of the bowls have had small rim chips repaired using a gold lacquer technique. This technique is used only for pieces to be considered valuable enough to warrant the expense. This is a fine, rare and original set of seven Oribe bowls. |
