A pair of Chinese cafe au lait plates or dishes measuring 6 X 1 1/4 ins., dating to the 19th century. The dishes have an overall cafe au lait surface glaze. They are decorated in rich, mutlicolor overglaze enamels with auspicious fungus and plant designs. They have apocryphal Ming Dynasty 6-character reign marks on the reverse, each one from a different calligrapher. However, the body, style and execution are all consistent with a later, 18th century date. They are in fine and original condition. |
