An exceptional Japanese elephant ivory okimono of a farmer, dating to the earely 20th century. The farmer holds a sac and a staff as he leans to the side. The carved and fitted figure is attached to a wooden base by way of a separate ivory piece. Overall, the okimono measures 5 1/2 ins. tall. The base is 4 ins. wide. The ivory is in fine and original condition with minor age cracks and patina. The staff was cut intentionally at a diagonal.
