A fine chawan, or teabowl, in temmoku shape, measuring 4 1/2 x 2 ins., dating to the early to mid 20th century. This bowl is made of finely levigated white clay that is covered with a celadon glaze. The artist has painted designs of wheat sheaves and circles in iron oxide that have fired to a rich brown and deep black. This bowl was made in England, possibly by a disciple of Bernard Leach. It is from the collection of an English gentleman. The bowl is in fine and original condition. |
